Legal aspects of public participation and access to environmental information in the Kyrgyz Republic

Abstract

In this article the author analyzes the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and the ways of implementing the Aarhus
Convention. Kyrgyz Republic acceded to the Aarhus Convention "On Access to Information, Public Participation in
Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Protection" in 2001. Access to information, public participation
in decision making and access to justice guaranteed by the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic. Existing legislation of
the Kyrgyz Republic gives the public the right to obtain information, including environmental information, public access
to decision-making and justice. Although the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic both sectoral and general direction,
there is legislative recognition, but need to develop specifi c procedures and mechanisms for their implementation,
taking into account the provisions of the Convention.
