The problem of radicalization of citizens, leading to violence and terrorism, is a real threat to the security and stability of the country. The increase in extremist crimes is also reflected in the growth in the number of convicts professing extremist ideologies in prisons. Research shows that one prisoner who actively promotes extremist views can involve several other convicts in his activities.
Foreign penitentiary systems have successful experience in combating extremism and radicalization, which can be studied and adapted to improve the work of correctional institutions in Kazakhstan.
The article analyzes the experience of countries around the world in the detention of those convicted of crimes of an extremist and terrorist nature and relevant rehabilitation and re-socialization programs for those serving sentences of imprisonment in penitentiary institutions.
